Rachel Vargas is responsible for the documentation and care of the MSU Broad’s collection, along with the packing, shipping, and insurance of artworks to and from the museum. She has borrowed works from all over the world, including China, Pakistan, India, Iceland, Ghana, Nigeria, Brazil, Argentina, and Chile. She came to the MSU Broad in 2004, when it was still the Kresge Art Museum, and before that worked for eighteen years as a registrar at the Harvard Art Museums. She holds a BA in classical art and archaeology from the University of Michigan and served as registrar for the school’s archaeological dig at Paestum, Italy, during her student years. She has served on the registrars’ board and as a panelist for the American Alliance of Museums and the Association of Registrars and Collections Specialists.
