Eli and Edythe Broad: An Enduring Legacy is organized by the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University and curated by former Assistant Curator Georgia Erger, with assistance from Senior Curator and Director of Curatorial Affairs Steven L. About the Exhibition
Eli Broad once said, “Contemporary art challenges us . . . it broadens our horizons. It asks us to think beyond the limits of conventional wisdom.” This ethos runs through the veins of the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum, which centers the study and appreciation of art as integral to the larger educational and cultural values of Michigan State University. Eli Broad was a beloved steward of art and a philanthropist of unparalleled impact. His passing on April 30, 2021, was met with a great sense of loss—it was also a moment to acknowledge and revel in all that he and his partner, Edythe, have done for the museum, for MSU, and for the great state of Michigan and beyond. This exhibition honors the Broads and features work they donated to the museum in 2013, shortly after its opening. Their unwavering support has allowed the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum to exist and become an important educational resource across the campus community and a cultural hub for the region.
