About the Exhibition
The 2021 MSU Department of Art, Art History, and Design Faculty Triennial will showcase the recent work of art and design faculty members. Within the climate of a top research university, Michigan State University faculty members are continually engaged in a pursuit of excellence utilizing cutting-edge techniques as contemporary artists and designers.
During the last academic year, most of the teaching and learning at MSU was made possible by virtual communications technologies that bypassed classrooms to instead interconnect living rooms. And while the faculty were adapting to the new normal in their teaching lives, the art and design work they produced tended to meditate on what it means to dwell—to bring together material structures, acts of building, and the desire to root oneself in a specific environment by creating a home there. The artworks submitted enliven the concept of home by picturing it as a vital, dynamic place in which to nurture health, forge community, redress injustice, develop identity, and imagine the future.
