My English Cousin (2019) Screening and Conversation

My English Cousin (2019) Screening and Conversation

What does it mean to leave the place you were born and make a new home? My English Cousin (2019), which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, follows Fahed as he contemplates his life between Algeria, the place of his birth, and England, his new home. Fahed’s story is similar to Zaha Hadid’s, the architect of the MSU Broad Art Museum, who left her birthplace in Iraq to study and work in London. The screening is part of an evening’s conversation about culture, diaspora, and lived experience past and present. This program is presented in partnership with MSU Film Studies’ Film Collective. Each semester, the Collective screens films according to a theme. This semester’s theme is Film Festivals and the World.

Zaha Hadid Design: Untold is on view through Feb. 12, 2023, a signature celebration of the museum’s 10th anniversary.
