Broad Underground: VDB TV
The MSU Broad Art Museum’s founding director, Michael Rush, was internationally recognized for his observations on video art and authorship of a pioneering survey on the subject, Video Art, published by Thames and Hudson. Inspired by works discussed in the textbook, the museum is collaborating with Video Data Bank (VDB) to host an online program on their VDB TV streaming platform. The program can be accessed during the entire month of January and will kick off VDB’s 50-year anniversary celebration.
Founded at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) in 1976, at the inception of the media arts movement, Video Data Bank (VDB) is a leading resource in the United States for video by and about contemporary artists. Launched in 2015, VDB TV is an innovative digital distribution project which provides free, online streaming access to curated programs of video and media art.
Broad Underground is an ongoing collaboration between the MSU Broad Art Museum and the MSU Film Studies Program that presents experimental film, video, and new media and encourages conversation around the topics featured.
