What is Sketchbook Club?

A sketchbook is a place to keep creative ideas and make drawings as you go about your day. Many artists use sketchbooks as a journal and a place to test out ideas for larger projects. Our sketchbook club will offer children opportunities to see the world in creative ways and build on their own artistic development.

How exactly does it work?

We’ll meet in small groups to learn new art skills and take on daily creative challenges. You can expect unique activities that invite children to play and create using their sketchbook, while learning about cool art from around the world. They will meet other creative kids and work with two instructors from the MSU Broad Education Team in daily club meetups. Children will be encouraged to make and share short videos and photos of their sketchbooks with the group. We know you don’t want to miss out on the fun, so we’ll send along daily updates for parents through email that keep you in the loop. Clubs will meet for 45 minutes per day for one week to share and learn about the daily sketchbook challenge, which will include activities for children to continue making offline.

Who is teaching Sketchbook Club?

The club is designed and overseen by certified K–12 art educators. All of our instructors are MSU students who work on K–12 and Family Programs at the MSU Broad.

Who can join Sketchbook Club?

We have four age groups to choose from: 6–8, 9–11, 12–14, and 15–18.

What about supplies + technology?

We’ll provide the art supplies; you provide the online access. Your registration fee includes a materials kit with all the supplies needed for Sketchbook Club. You decide the easiest option to receive those supplies: curbside pick-up at Odd Nodd Art Supplies in Lansing, MI or mailed directly to your home* two weeks prior to club start date. Children will need access to a phone, tablet, or computer that has video capabilities to participate in this club.

*Please allow two weeks before the start of camp for delivery.

How do I register?

Registration is now open and is $55 per child.

Can we register in a group of friends?

Yes! Sign-up with a group of 6 friends, cousins, neighbors—Sketchbook Club is a great way for young artists to stay connected!
