John Lucas and Claudia Rankine: Situations Opening Reception

Friday, Feb. 07, 2020    6–8pm

Meet documentary filmmaker John Lucas and acclaimed poet Claudia Rankine as we celebrate the presentation of the entire series of Situation videos for the first time in a solo exhibition. Produced collaboratively by Lucas and Rankine, the videos combine still and moving images from archival, televised, and surveilled sources together to address both the explicit acts of racism and the insidious racist aggressions built into institutional structures and everyday life. Curated by Georgia Erger, John Lucas and Claudia Rankine: Situations is on view February 8 – May 31, 2020.

John Lucas and Claudia Rankine: Situations is organized by the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University as part of the Artist Project Series, and curated by Georgia Erger, Assistant Curator. Support for this series is provided by the MSU Federal Credit Union.
