With public health and safety in mind, we have postponed this event. We plan to reschedule for a later date, to be confirmed.
Poet as Citizen: Writing Poetry as an Active Civic Skill
In this K–12 educator workshop, poets and scholars Will Langford, Alecia Beymer, and Vaughn W. M. Watson, Ed.D. (Assistant Professor in the Department of Teacher Education) will lead you through an interactive, moving experience with Claudia Rankine’s 2014 book Citizen: An American Lyric and the MSU Broad’s current exhibition featuring Rankine’s collaborative work with John Lucas. Expect to learn strategies for bridging cultural gaps between students and building a strong classroom community of understanding through poetry. Cost of registration (free!) includes a light breakfast. You also get a copy of Citizen, which will be integral to the workshop! SCECHs are available.
Registration is required. Click here to register for this free workshop.
John Lucas and Claudia Rankine: Situations is organized by the MSU Broad as part of the Artist Project Series, and curated by Georgia Erger, Assistant Curator. Support for this series is provided by the MSU Federal Credit Union. On view through May 31, 2020.
